It's name: Morocco is called in Arabic Al-Maghrib "The sunset" or Al-Maghrib Al-Aqsa "The distant sunset."
Situation: In north-western Africa, bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the west, the Strait of Gibraltar and the Mediterranean Sea to the north, Algeria to the east and Mauritania to the south.
Capital: Rabat.
Area: 710 000 km2.
Population: About 33 million people.
Its existence: Morocco as a state has existed since the year 788, when Idriss 1st was proclaimed king at Volubilis.
It's Monarchy: Morocco is a constitutional monarchy. The current King Mohammed VI succeeded his father King Hassan II, who died the 23rd of July 1999.
